BYD Seal, Xiaomi SU7 and Tesla Model 3: Three Different Visions of the Electric Car

Performance, range, efficiency, price and after-sales support: why Chinese EVs are increasingly challenging Tesla.

The comparison between Chinese electric cars and Tesla is no longer a curiosity. It has become one of the most important competitive battles in the global automotive industry.

Consider three sedans: BYD Seal, Xiaomi SU7 and Tesla Model 3.

Tesla remains a benchmark for many Western customers, particularly for efficiency, software, charging infrastructure and ecosystem maturity.

But BYD and Xiaomi are proving that China’s advantage is no longer simply about low prices.

BYD Seal: the best overall balance

The BYD Seal is probably the most convincing compromise for a European customer today.

The Seal Design RWD offers up to 570 km WLTP, 230 kW and 0–100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. BYD’s current Italian promotion brings the Design version to approximately €41,700, compared with a €45,900 list price.

Its strength is not simply performance.

It is the combination of battery technology, range, equipment, quality and price.

And there is one major advantage over Xiaomi in Europe:

BYD already has an official sales and service network.

BYD provides pan-European roadside assistance and authorised repairers, including 24/7 roadside assistance in Italy.

Xiaomi SU7: the technology challenger

The Xiaomi SU7 may be the most technologically ambitious of the three.

Xiaomi has brought its consumer-electronics philosophy into the automotive sector: software integration, computing power, smartphone connectivity and a strong focus on digital user experience.

The higher-performance versions offer acceleration and power figures capable of competing with much more expensive sports cars.

But there is a major European limitation.

The SU7 is not yet officially sold across Europe.
